Steve, funny, I read all of Mushy's post too and actaully, even started writign a response to post in his blog but didn't get to really get into it enouhg but still would like to leave some kind of comments to ponder. I think his post is sincere and deep thinking, yes, but misguided from lack of knowledge of scripture. It's to easy to have our ears tickled and be misled into believing what we want to beleive, what becomes our opinion but isn't necessarily Biblically accurate, and thus, true.

I would encourage you to leave some of your comments on his blog as he did invite you to go there as, too, I doubt he'll come here and who knows how many might inadvertently believe what's suggested there without realising how much is left out. I wonder why one can use scripture to verify something we hold dear, not really beleiving in the bible anyway, but then leave out the very following verses that suggest otherwise. Well, actaully, I guess we all do this to some degree, even when we do uphold scripture! All the more reason to know the Bible more fully and be groudned in truth and not the passing doctrines of this world.

BTw, I've been enjoyng readding yoru many trials adn adventures back in the Netherlands and glad you made it back. Keep plugging away for His glory. You might mess up at times but your heart is in the right place, reaching out.

Mushy,

Out of respect for you taking the time to comment, and inviting me to read something you've posted, I took the time to read (all) of your article. Even after all the stuff about how (according to you, not Scripture) everyone gets saved and God doens't really judge anyone in the end (according to you). Maybe I misunderstood your article, but those kind of statements peppered through out it really left a reaction in me--that I hope you aren't personally responsible for anybody believing such a compromised Gospel message.

For one thing, the Bible does not teach all be saved, despite the numerous prooftexts you pull out of context to teach that Jesus "died for the whole world" (John 3:16 you quoted)--but finish that sentence or thought--and check the verses following it:

Joh 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Joh 3:19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil.
Joh 3:20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
Joh 3:21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been carried out in God."

Brother, God's not going to yank anyone to heaven against their will.

I think you have a mistaken notion of salvation, and over-emphasise the grace, but forget that grace, in the Greek "charis" is power/enablement---not every time you read the word grace in your Bible is the original definition one that relates to mercy/kindness/etc. But more often than you may think, POWER (charis) to live free from sin! Power to live a life with the Holy Spirit (God Himself!) living inside us to enable and encourage us to live holy lives, since it was our unholiness (sin) that separated us from Him in the first place.

I don't want to be too unecessarily harsh with complete strangers, so I read some of your more recent entries for some insight into who you are. But since this is my blog and you don't have to read it if you don't want (maybe you'll never see this response)--I can't help but try to offer some encouragement/warning. Make no mistake, God judges sin, and will judge sin--yes, in the believers' life:

Heb 10:26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
Heb 10:29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?

1Jo 3:6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.

1Jo 3:9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.

There are more, but I don't want this to be too long since this is a comment after all, not a blog post, and don't know if you'll ever come back and read this.

Thank you for what I interpret to be a well-intended and good natured attempt to set me straight on something that I'm under the impression you feel I'm in error about. I'm not surprised someone left a post like this, as the judgment of God is often times a topic many believers don't want to face the reality of, and if nobody misinterprets it, then I have to re-evaluate if I was really teaching about it or not!

Blessings on your head Mushy.

wow Steve, that is one of th ebest "sermon" posts you've written. I don't know, for some reason it really speaks deeply to me and is so pointed at the stubborn pridefoolishness of man's natural condition.

I love how you point to the cross as being like Noah and the ark, etc. I have never thought of that before but whoa, how incredible is that?!

Not to be disrespectful to the dead, but I couldn't help but think of other such times of magnitude where death is facing one. I think of 9-11 and all those people trapped in the burning towers, so afraid and so desperate that some ven willfully jumped. I wonder in all the mayhem and horror how many turned to God for the first time or how many cursed Him, facing their mortality?

Later you conclude with sin finding us out. Indeed. This speaks just as much to the non believer as any Christian hiding sin. I am reminded how apprently something like 75-80% or self proclaimed "born again" Christian men struggle with a secret sin of porn addiction. If this is true in the church, how much more so in the world? Very concerning. In such a state is it any wonder why the church lacks male leadership/participation? Many men don't feel they can get right with God and serve others as they are entrapped. It is very disturbing. Our secret sin, whatever it is, not only affects us individually but drains the entire body of Christ, handicapping those who could be used to such a greater potential to pour out the Love of Christ.
