Bryan, I think you observations are very true of AW. I have tried to read several of Tozer’s books, along with many of the other classics, etc. But I found his works austere, aloof, dispassionate, not very loving and maybe a bit… monastic. Your article helps me make sense of the man and his writings. I have known of a others who were great readers of Tozers… and they too, were aloof, not close to family and friends… and kind of spiritual aloofness. It was actually kind of weird. I wonder what happened to the 7 kids. Thanks for this clarifying article.

GREAT word, Bryan! You hit the nail on the head here. Particularly how we each have “one shot” with our families and relationships. It is tragic how lopsided and imbalanced the family lives were/are with so many of those we esteem as revivalists or prophets. May we fully learn from their examples! Your post here serves as a powerful reminder and wake up call to what really matters to God for us while we are on this earth.

I really appreciate this article. I LOVE Tozer’s writings but I, too, wrestled with the idea of leaving my family to be alone too often. This has encouraged me to keep a healthy balance.
