Hi all, Finney certainly had a heart for God, it is good to see positive faith contributions, the net seems to be full of criticisms etc and I really enjoy a site or thread that steps aside from all that and provides content that gives God Glory as that is what it is all about.

Thanks for the comment pastor. May we see the urgency of the need for revival, and get intimate first and foremost with God so as to be the vessels He can entrust with it!

What our generation urgently need is a revival. Revival of righteousness must preceed the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. To fulfil the great commission, personal revival is non-negotiable. We need to earnesrly hunger for personal revival, then we can expect it. For the expectation of the just shall not be cut off, and the Scripture cannot be broken.

Great insight, Steve! I couldn't agree more and really appreciated this. The words of Jeremiah 31:33 came to mind: "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people." (It's all in the heart. It's all about who you love!) To find the reference of that verse, I searched the words "in their hearts" on biblegateway.com. Anyone whose interested in this theme should do the same thing. I was amazed to notice how many verses reveal that the prosperity (not just physically, but spiritually--ie revival) or poverty of the nation and the individuals goes the way of their hearts. Basically there is revival when the hearts (love) are turned to God, and disaster when the hearts (their love) go after that which is not the true God. It's not what their lips are saying, or how many animals they're sacrificing, but what their hearts are feasting on. AMAZING! It all depends on love. In fact, in his great encounter with the prophets of Baal, Elijah prayed, "Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again." (1 Kings 18) As the heart goes, so goes the nation.
